SALEM: The healthcare sector in the country offers a large number of job opportunities for graduates of any discipline including business management, says General Manager - Operations, Dr. Agarwal Group of Eye Hospitals, R.Y. Bharathkanth Reddy. He was talking on ‘Career Opportunities in Health Care sector’ organised by The Hindu Business Line Club of Periyar Institute of Management Studies (PRIMS) in Periyar University here on Wednesday. The programme was sponsored by the Karur Vysya Bank.



Mr. Bharathkanth Reddy said that the healthcare sector registered tremendous growth in the recent past. The healthcare spending in the country had gone up several folds and the awareness level among people on quality healthcare had increased significantly. The sector was expected to grow at the rate of 10.5 per cent per annum from 2025. The total worth of the health insurance sector in the country was over Rs. 60,000 crore and it was growing fast every year.


The tremendous growth in the healthcare sector led to the creation of a number of job opportunities for the educated youth. Apart from the medical professionals, there is a great demand for persons in the areas of marketing, human resources management, operations, finance and information technology, he said.


Explaining the expectations of the industry, he advised the students to prepare themselves to face the challenges in the real world. “What you have learnt in the college alone is not adequate. Students should utilize various learning resources including newspapers to improve their knowledge,” he said.


Assistant General Manager from Karur Vysya Bank S. Raghunathan called upon the student community to use the resources provided to them to improve their knowledge and skills. He also explained the loans provided by the bank for students to pursue their higher education.


University Registrar S. Gunasekaran presided. The Institute Director N. Rajendhiran and Club Co-ordinator R. Subramaniya Bharathy were present.
