The healthcare sector in the country offers a large number of job opportunities for graduates from various disciplines, including business management, the General Manager - Operations, Dr. Agarwal Group of Eye Hospitals, Mr R.Y. Bharathkanth Reddy, said.



He was delivering a special lecture on career opportunities in the healthcare sector organised by Business Line Club of Periyar Institute of Management Studies (PRIMS) in Periyar University premises here. The programme was sponsored by Karur Vysya Bank.



Mr Reddy said that the healthcare sector registered tremendous growth in the recent past. The healthcare spending in the country had gone up several-fold and the awareness level among people on quality healthcare had increased significantly. The sector was expected to grow at the rate of 10.5 per cent per annum starting from 2025. The total worth of the health insurance sector in the country was over Rs 60,000 crore and it was growing fast every year.



The tremendous growth in the healthcare sector led to the creation of a number of job opportunities for the educated youth. Apart from the medical professionals, there is a great demand for people in the areas of marketing, human resource management, operations, finance and information technology, he said.



Explaining the expectations of the industry, he advised the students to prepare themselves to face the challenges in the real world.



“What you have learnt in the college alone is not adequate. Students should utilise various learning resources, including newspapers, to improve their knowledge,” he said.



The University Registrar, Mr S. Gunasekaran, presided. The Assistant General Manager, Karur Vysya Bank, Mr S. Raghunathan, the PRIMS Director, Mr N. Rajendhiran, and Club Co-ordinator, Mr R. Subramaniya Bharathy, were present.
